In May of 2024, we welcomed our Wildlife director, Katie Lo. With official wildlife rehabbers on staff, we can now grow our passion for helping all the small animals in Bloomington Indiana & surrounding areas.
This includes anything from squirrels & opossums to groundhogs, skunks, turtles & so much more!
Check out the steps below for the proper care of abandoned & lost wildlife, until you can get them into our care.
-
Keep it warm & secure.
Keep it secure in whatever container you can find, with air holes provided. Use old towels or rags to keep it warm. It's a plus if you can provide a heating pad on low or a sock filled with rice/beans, warmed.
-
Keep it dark & quiet.
Abandoned & injured wildlife may often seem calm, but that is just their stress response to predators. In reality, they are terrified and that can be detrimental to their health & heart. Keep them in a dark & quiet room separate from the rest of the household to limit their stress.
-
DO NOT FEED.
Above all, if you can remember anything, DO NOT FEED any wild animal you find. This is the most harmful thing you can do. All wildlife have complex diets that can only be met by qualified rehabbers, and improper feeding can lead to a whole host of issues. Contact us to help you determine the next steps!
